Fragranced massage oils to treat symptoms

The following information may help you determine the type of essential oil you need for a particular area of your body or health condition.

In order to provide cooling and stimulating relief, use camphor, sandalwood, marjoram, geranium or cypress oil. Cypress also helps nervous tension.

Lavender oil is the most popular and also provides a soothing and calming feeling, and is also used as a natural sedative.

In order to relieve stress, try clary sage or cedarwood oil. Cedarwood oil is also useful to ease chest pain and asthma attacks. Frankincense is also useful in the treatment of asthma.

For sinus problems and relief from congestion, use clove, myrrh, eucalyptus, sage or tea tree oils.

If you feel the need to be energized and invigorated, try clary sage, frankincense, juniper, Melissa, lemon, lemongrass, peppermint or rosemary oils.

In order to purify the body, mind and spirit, try eucalyptus or juniper oils.

Melissa oil is effective for treating headaches.

For relief from nausea, use Melissa or peppermint oils. Peppermint oil is also helpful in preventing motion sickness.

To provide relief from depression, try jasmine, Neroli, rose (will also increase alertness) and Ylang Ylang.

Patchouli and Neroli oils are effective in relieving anxiety.

The uses for some of the other oils include: lemongrass, repels insects; orange, useful in creating an entertaining mood (more so when combined with bergamot); sage, blood cleansing; and Tea Tree as an antibiotic and anti-septic, anti-fungal, and anti-viral.

In order for your oils to be most effective, keep them tightly sealed and store them away from direct sunlight and heat. Plastic containers should not be used because they could hinder the effectiveness of the oil.

Some precautions should be taken with your oils such as: Do not use them near the eye or use undiluted oils directly on the skin, and do not swallow them. If the oil does get directly on the skin, use a fat-based or oil-based cream to remove it. And, of course, keep oils away from children.

It is beneficial to purchase oils that are of recognized or certified brands. They may cost a little more, but it will be to your benefit to use the better quality oils. Many times the cheaper oils are produced with cheaper and impure materials. The quality of the oil may be affected by its area of origin and processing methods, such as if it was a part of the first batch or subsequent batch extracted from the plant. It may also be affected by the plant harvest.
