Ergonomic Features on Massage tables
Ergonomics is defined as a process of designing products and systems to meet the needs and capabilities of humans. The purpose is so that people and technology may work together. This is evident in massage because tables and stools are made to be effective for the human needs, including comfort and effectiveness. This is also true, for example, when designing products in the work industry because when products are designed ergonomically, there are fewer injuries such as strains and other work-related injuries. Fewer accidents in the work place generate more productivity and endurance. As for the massage therapist, his profession is more productive and fulfilling because he is helping people feel better and have more energy, which usually means a better outlook on life. There are many difficult requirements for the massage therapist. In massage, he uses many muscles and joints to ensure that his client will obtain an effective massage. The body parts such as hands, knees, hips, legs, etc. must be used correctly with the proper body mechanics. Ergonomics plays a part in this as to the manner in which the massage table and/or stools are designed. The therapist must also learn to use the equipment properly to put less of a strain on his own body during the massage. The ergonomics that play a part in effectiveness for the massage therapist are the design of the table, such as the height, width and ease of accessibility for the therapist. He must be able to work close enough to the recipient's body to administer an effective massage. The therapist also needs to be sure that his table is stable and strong. The therapist also needs to be familiar with the actual impact of the massage. He needs to know that his client is comfortable and relaxed, and the actual equipment plays a vital part in this factor. Your clients will all have different needs and desires for massage and, of course, they will not all be the same size. They may be short or tall, healthy or unhealthy, in good physical shape or disabled or elderly. Therefore, you need to know how to adjust your equipment to meet the needs of each individual. One of the major advantages of today's massage tables is that the height can be adjusted for ease of getting on and off the table. Other advantages include the softness of the foam the tilt of the table, the headrest adjustment and the various bolster pillows. You, of course, need to determine how to utilize each feature for your particular client. For example, some people may even have an allergy to certain fabrics. If this is the case, you may want to have different types of sheets or covers for your tables. People with sinus problems may prefer that you adjust your table so that it, or the headrest, tilts to allow for drainage. |
