About massage tables

Learning more about massage tables will help you in choosing the right massage table for your needs. The physical size and weight of the table should be an important consideration for the buyer when choosing a table.

Physical Dimensions:
Width: Tables between 28 to 30" wide are the most common because they accommodate the client comfortably and allows the practitioner to work efficiently. The tables are also easier to transport if they are within that size range.

Length: The typical length of portable tables is 73". Another 12" would
be added to the overall length of the table for an optional headrest. Using an optional bolster under the receiver's knees or ankles can shorten the length of the receiver.

Height: Most tables are adjustable to the height that the practitioner
requires. When adjusting table heights, you should consider the following factors: the height of the practitioner, treatment method and most favorable working height. The measurement should be done from the floor to the tabletop.

Weight: Normal portable tables weigh between 28 and 32 pounds. If you have a special need for a table size outside the dimensions of the standard table, custom orders are available with many manufacturers.

Many elements contribute to the construction and design of massage tables.

Strength: When manufacturers rate their tables, there are two terms they use: static weight and working weight.

Static Weight: This is the maximum amount of weight that can be distributed across the entire surface of the table. It is normally ascertained by applying weights to the tables in order to determine the heaviest weight load that the table can withstand.

Working Weight: This is the total pounds per square inch that can be applied to the precise working area of the table while it is being used.

Foam: Foam which is 2" medium density is used on most average tables. Some higher end tables use laminated (layered) foam which adds an additional inch.

Fabric Types:
Levante Doeskin: This material is a smooth, soft vinyl and is treated with
Pre Fixx, which makes it easy to clean and makes it stain resistant as well.

Sta-Soft: This material is comparable to Levante Doeskin but is protected
with BeautyGuard finish.

Ultraleather: This is very long-lasting, easy to clean and lightweight. For
an extra cost, this material is available in premium, supple fabrics.
